The Metropolitan Police and Bike Safe have teamed up to put on a series of courses across London with the aim to make motorcyclists safer and more confident and reduce the chances of collisions on our roads.
At one of the rider skills days, professional police motorcyclists – who are all keen bikers – share the secrets of how to become a neater, smoother, safer and more confident rider. The days are run by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service.
The Met Police are the only police force in the country that offers this course to learner riders. So it doesn’t matter if you’re just starting off or if you’re a veteran rider, they cater for everyone’s needs. These one-day sessions will include a morning classroom session that covers the below topics and is then followed by an observed ride.
- Collision causation (right turn violations)
- Cornering and bend assessment
- Overtaking, filtering and group riding
- Attitude to risk, plus hazard management
- The system of motorcycle control
The aim of the day is simple: to help you enjoy safer biking even more. You’ll get advice that’ll make good sense to you at your stage and ability and help on where to get further training.
